How can nature heal us in times of great stress? Here’s a little something to share from my own experience…

I had finally convinced my 85-year-old parents to cancel any unnecessary doctors’ appointments, only to find out that they went to the doctor’s office anyway because a form needed to be signed. Aaaaaaaaaaa!

Conversation on the phone:

Me: Oh, you went anyway? (gulp)

Dad: Well, I needed the doc’s signature on a form.

Me: But Dad, I could have emailed that for you! You promised to call me with all that!

Dad: Oh it’s ok! I stayed in the car and didn’t go in – Mom did….

I’m laughing now as I’m typing this, but I wasn’t laughing then – and it’s all because of the birds! After explaining to my parents, again, the perils of doctors’ offices during these times, given their “experience” in age, I hung up the phone with a big “I love you guys!”, then sat and watched the birds at my feeder. Two Common Mergansers had lighted on our pond – a stop on their way further north. I saw the big picture and, most importantly, my connection to it; and I could once again… breathe!

Back to reality, but with a little more sanity… stay safe everyone and wishing you all a little bit of nature’s sanity!
